3 Days 2 Nights Tigray Rock-hewn Churches

Day 1: Aksum – Yeha – Debre Damo – Gherealta
Drive to Yeha, passing thourgh the spectacular mountains of Adwa, where the largest and best-Armed colonial force in Africa was defeated, preserving Ethiopia’s independence. Visit Yeha temple, which dates back to the 7th century BCE, and explore the museum. Then, proceed to the ancient monastery of Debre Damo, accessible only by a 15 – meter leaser rope with the assistance of a monk from the top. Note that women are not allowed to enter. Afterward, continue Driving to Hawzien. Overnight at a Hotel.
Day 2: Gherealta
Drive to western part of Hawzien to visit the Abune Yemata Guh church, the journey involves about an hour walking, with the steep ascent eventually requiring a climb using foot and handholds carved into the sandstone rock. This church, built by one of the Nine Saints. Offers breathtaking panoramic views and is adorned with beautiful paintings. Next, visit Maryam Korkor church, which is impressive both architecturally and spiritually. Overnight at a hotel or lodge.
Day 3: Gherealta – Mekelle
After breakfast, Drive to the Abraha we Atsibha church, located 15 km west of Wukro town. It is one of finest rock-churchs in Tigray, carved into red rock and overlooking a scenic valley. The church holds an important cross of Saint Frumentius (the father of peace) also, visit the Wukro chirkos church and its interesting museum. Overnight at a hotel.
